The Lying Down Game also known as PLANKING is an activity, popular in various parts of the world, consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The location should also be as public as possible, and as many people as possible should be involved.
MAIN REASON WHY PLANKING BECAME A FAD IN 2011
A statement was issued in response to a 20-year-old man (in America) found planking on a police car, which was an attempt to dissuade people from taking part in the practice, at least in unlawful or dangerous ways.
Within 48 hours of the statement, planking had been mentioned 624 times across radio, television, newspapers and online news sites, including this website, with presenters such as Karl Stefanovic and Kerri-Anne Kennerley (Talk Show Hosts) had started planking on air.
Police's fears were realized, when 20-year-old Acton Beale (Picture Below) plunged to death the balcony of his seventh-floor unit on Main Street, Kangaroo Point, in Brisbane's inner south, shortly before 4.30am.
